12/12
I woke up feeling human today!
No nausea, no sleepiness. I even smelt bacon wafting in the air and felt ok. I showered, energized, ate one whole large papaya, drank water and felt like a decent human being. Wow! I'm so happy.
It's been tough the last 3 months for me to drink water, for some reason water has not appealed to me much. I'm not sure if it's the temp or it's not the purest, freshest, spring fed, alkaline water but it's been tough to drink enough. This morning and the last few days I've been able to start incorporating citrus back into my diet which is so satisfying. I couldn't stand anything sour for 3 whole months. Everything I ate had to be bland, bland, bland. I am not even kidding you. Mashed potato with some salt and a little nutritional yeast was one of the most appealing dishes for awhile and something I could stomach.
Oh and I stopped eating greens completely which was so disconcerting. I was a salad person up until pregnancy, with daily, massive salads sometimes as my whole meal. The salads I would make honestly would feed a Filipino family. For some reason during the first trimester, I just couldn't stomach the idea of eating greens. I felt guilty a little at first not eating my usual healthy diet and completely cutting out my pre-natal vitamin due to the fact that it would increase nausea. To be honest, the one thing that has worked in nausea prevention/maintenance is CBD. It is cannabis oil minus the THC (hallucinogen property) and it was prescribed to me by an ND and I got it through my doctor. It has been the only thing that has worked and thank God because nothing was working. I actually got to the point in 2nd month of pregnancy where the nausea was so bad and my body was so freaked out I couldn't take in food and I ended up on Iv for dehydration. It was a tough experience for about a week but the IV treatment shaped me up and since then the CBD has been a lifesaver.
Recently we purchased a nutri bullet online and I started to make the most amazing smoothies. The part I love about smoothies is that I can put in all the nutritious greens and things that I wouldn't necessarily eat through out the day, all together in one shake. Such as kale, chard, spinach or parsley, bananas, mango or papaya, coconut oil, flax seeds, chia seeds, almond milk, coconut water, prenatal vitamins, probiotics, MCT oil, sometimes cacao and whatever else boosts my nutrition. It is such a relief to be getting all that nutrition in again.
For awhile I was living solely on crackers, bread (sometimes if I could find gluten-free), yogurt, boiled bananas and yams. That's it.
Oh, this amazing smoothie I fell in love with is made with fresh strawberries, yogurt, honey and ice. Wow. Yumm. Also really loving eating whole papayas, the deep ruby red ones they have here in the Philippines. I'm gonna miss those when we go to Canada. Did I tell you we are going to Canada for the birth?
Well that's a whole other blog post :)
After that tough time, it feels like my diet is finally getting back on track. Raw, enzymatic, nutrient rich foods are really calling out now. That... and cheese. :) Like fresh, high quality mozzarella from Italy.
For awhile I was totally repelled by the idea, smell/heat of cooking. I really couldn't bring myself to cook and didn't want cooking done in the house. Because of the smells mostly. I hated onion and garlic. But recently I got reinspired again about food by this vegan/plant based family on Youtube that I follow.
The wife, an Australian named Jinti Fell is a mother of a 1-year old and her and her husband travel around Australia living in a van. They have such an interesting and fascinating life and I am so amazed at their simplicity and joy. I am most intrigued with how well and balanced they eat. Home is where the hearth is. The life/happiness of a family really seems to revolve a lot around food. And God or spirituality :) If you figure out a simple, no nonsense, easy and nutritious diet you can see how it really makes the family happy.
This van or v-log family eats a very balanced diet that includes lots of plant based proteins like beans, lentils, tempeh and nut butters. And of course dark, leafy greens. They eat a ton of fruit, like up to 15 mangoes daily. And they look so healthy and they are such loving and positive people.
I think I mentioned this before that my baby is definitely a vegan because he/she hasn't wanted anything with meat. Only fresh, simple, pure foods. Not only did I not crave for meat but the one time I did, I had it and I couldn't digest it at all and it was so traumatic I haven't tried since. So there it is.
I'm so excited to go to Canada where there is a plathura of healthy, delicious and affordable organic foods. Including gluten free vegan stuff that I can indulge in.
For now, I've been baking and cooking a lot while I have an oven. Becoming reinspired to prepare healthy, delicious meals and items, especially those I crave and enjoy eating during pregnancy. And of course, Janaka helps me with that too. My favorite lately is baking gluten free treats. Today I will make an apple cobbler in my oven.
Love you all, thanks for listening.
